The Music

From the magical evocation of the carousel to the toe-tapping rhythms of the clam-bake, the music of this giant of the musical stage remains timeless and star bright.

Bursting with beautiful melodies, songs like Soliloquy, Mister Snow and When The Children Are Asleep have revolutionised contemporary musicals and moved generations of audiences to tears. Recorded individually, they were huge successes for world stars such as Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand and Sammy Davis Jr., amongst many others. The most famous song of the musical remains without a doubt You'll Never Walk Alone. Best know today as a football anthem, the original is arguably one of the most emotionally evocative songs of all time. Indeed, the great Broadway composer Irving Berlin (Top Hat, Annie Get Your Gun) once famously compared its effects to the 23rd Psalm The Lord is my Shepherd.
